Tijeras, Cedar Crest, Sandia Park, and Edgewood make up the East Mountain Area on the outskirt of Albuquerque.  These are the smaller mountain communities outside of the Albuquerque metro area.  This area has truly adopted the idea of mountain living conveniently outside of the city, but close by.  This provides quiet living without being too far from necessities.

The housing in this area includes rustic cabins to luxury housing and newer developments.  Most of the houses sit on larger pieces of land, adopting the natural vegetation for landscaping.  In the winters, this area gets the light dusting of snow that the metro area craves.

The most exciting and closest form of recreation is the Sandia Crest Ski Area.  This ski basin provides a fun filled, inexpensive day of skiing or snowboarding.  There are also sledding hills, snowmobile areas, and snow play areas designated for kids of all ages.  In the summers, there are dozens of campground sites available to the public.

In the last few years, many stores, restaurants, and churches have moved in for local residents.  This the perfect location for country living right outside of the big city.
