The business center of New Mexico would be considered to be consolidated in Downtown Albuquerque. Local and National companies hold their headquarters here as well as government buildings for the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. The Albuquerque Convention Center complex sits in the center of the Downtown area, hosting large events at one of Albuquerque's largest venues. There are many other smaller, historic venues for entertainment throughout Downtown all sitting along historic Route 66 which runs right through this area.
The Downtown and UNM areas are under a lot of redevelopment. The housing in this area is inclusive of small, older homes, student housing rentals, many new lofts/apartments, and urban centers. This area is considered a little more expensive for it's central location to the metro center and the proximity to the university, but is close to city transportation and is so convenient,
